Stand for Something

Celebrating Women Leaders

THE INITIATIVE

Stand for Something is an O-A-K outreach initiative designed to educate and engage our community regarding the importance of women in both traditional and non-traditional leadership roles. We recognize the positive impacts gender diversity has on the performance and profitability of companies, as well as the challenges that exist for women in the workplace.

We invite you to join us as we Stand for Something and explore the topics surrounding women’s leadership.

EDUCATE

Women make up less than 2% of the construction workforce in our country[1]. Across all industries, full-time women workers earnings are 23.5% less than full-time men’s earnings[2].  Yet on average, companies with the highest percentages of women board directors outperformed those with the least by 66 percent.[3] Our goal is to educate our employees and our community regarding the obstacles and opportunities for women leaders. Our EDUCATE component includes:

  • Regularly held seminars with community partners in our downtown Grand Rapids office.

  • An annual scholarship for a woman pursuing a construction-related degree. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact women@oakmi.com for application information.
