This $4 million project marked Phase 1 of a new remote utilities plant at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport that supports increased capacity for the airport’s growing demand.

This new facility, located just 1,500 feet from the terminal, features two new 800-ton cooling towers, with a footprint for a future third tower, and nine chillers.

Infrastructure was put in place to house the airport’s main electrical services. Chilled water piping was installed from the new remote location, and tied into the building’s existing utility piping. Service was switched over without affecting operations. Existing cooling towers were disconnected and removed to prep for a new modified airport loading dock.
