
Since opening in 2015, the Meijer Sports Complex in Plainfield Township has been one of West Michigan's strongest engines for sports tourism and community recreation, drawing athletes and families from across the country. For West Michigan Sports Commission President Mike Guswiler, the original vision was never fully complete. A winning-streak capital campaign brought that vision back to life, and O-A-K returned as Construction Manager to help build the next chapter of it.
The centerpiece of the expansion is the Alro Steel Championship Softball Field, a fully outfitted competitive facility made possible through a naming-rights partnership with Alro Steel. The project also added 20 new pickleball courts and two flex-use diamond fields, significantly expanding the complex's capacity to host regional and national tournaments. New parking, upgraded amenities, and improved site infrastructure round out a facility that was already a community asset and is now positioned to grow well beyond it.
"We saw the Meijer Sports Complex producing the sports tourism we were looking for, but also serving as a community asset," Guswiler said at the ribbon cutting. "So we brought O-A-K back to the table and said, 'Let's improve what we did.'"
