Owen-Ames-Kimball has reached significant construction milestones on schedule at the Heights CareerTech Institute, a transformative post-secondary career and technical education (CTE) campus and a project of The Heights Foundation/The Heights Center.
The Heights CareerTech Institute represents the third building Owen-Ames-Kimball has constructed for The Heights Foundation, following the successful completion of The Heights Center and The Harlem Heights Community Charter School—a continuation of a long-standing partnership focused on education, opportunity, and community impact. The project was designed by RG Architects, who also designed The Harlem Heights Community Charter School.
Located on Gladiolus Drive in the Harlem Heights neighborhood of Fort Myers, The Heights CareerTech Institute will serve students from across Southwest Florida, providing hands-on training and industry-recognized credentials in high-demand skilled trades. At full capacity, the Institute will serve up to 500 students annually, preparing graduates for viable, family-supporting careers while helping address critical workforce shortages throughout the region.
Construction milestones achieved to date include:
· Perimeter retaining wall complete
· Modular underground stormwater management system nearly complete
· Underground utilities underway
· Interior metal framing complete
· Roof dry-in complete
· Monumental staircase structure complete
· Mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and fire rough-ins underway
· Curtain walls and exterior windows underway
· Exterior sheathing underway
The project on schedule and is nearing completion of major structural components that historically present the greatest risk for delays due to weather and material availability.
The goal is to receive the Certificate of Occupancy by mid-July, allowing classrooms and specialized training labs to be fully equipped and prepared ahead of welcoming the Institute’s inaugural student cohorts beginning in August.
“Reaching these milestones on schedule reflects the strength of our partnership with The Heights Foundation and the collaboration of the entire project team,” said Jim Hopper, Florida Division President of Owen-Ames-Kimball. “This is our third project with The Heights Foundation, and each one reinforces our shared commitment to building facilities that create long-term opportunity and serve as anchors for the community.”
“This building is much more than a construction project; it is a promise to our community,” said Kathryn Kelly, Founder, President, and CEO of The Heights Foundation/The Heights Center. “The Heights CareerTech Institute expands our mission in a powerful way, creating direct pathways to careers that strengthen families and fuel our regional economy. Seeing this campus rise with a trusted partner like Owen-Ames-Kimball is incredibly meaningful.”
Upon completion, The Heights CareerTech Institute will stand as a lasting investment in education, economic mobility, and workforce development—further solidifying Harlem Heights as a center for learning, innovation, and opportunity.
