Barrier-Free Garden for Families

As part of O-A-K’s GIVE 120 initiative, celebrating 120 years of building in the Grand Rapids area, we donated construction management services to the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan for this new playscape and family garden.

The not-for-profit organization previously had a play area in their 5 acre backyard that was not barrier free and therefore, could not accommodate children with special physical needs.

The Playscape and Family Garden project created a wonderful environment for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, a space away from the more hectic environments of a hospital or therapy center.

All children, regardless of their physical limitations, can now enjoy the barrier free play elements of the new playscape. Families also have full access to barrier free pathways around the gardens with sitting areas to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
