Expanding Minds In a Growing School District

Working alongside architectural firm TowerPinkster, O-A-K has provided construction management services for Byron Center Public Schools since 1995, overseeing more than $200 million in new schools, additions, and renovations. As the district experienced sustained growth over the past two decades, the community approved a $68.5 million bond in 2017 to support major facility improvements, including a significant expansion and transformation of Byron Center High School.

Strategically phased over two and a half years to maintain safety and minimize disruption to daily operations, the high school was completed between May 2018 and September 2020. The scope included a new main entrance and multipurpose lobby, 18 classrooms, four science labs, a weight room, expanded cafeteria, and renovations to locker and hallway spaces. Major site and infrastructure upgrades — such as a new roof and reconfigured parking — improved traffic flow and functionality, while flexible learning environments and a relocated media center enabled a new centralized administration wing designed for 21st-century education.
