Historic School Transformed for Modern Learning

Initiated by a structural roof collapse in June of 2019, the school district turned misfortune into opportunity. The concept of renovating the entire building was born in early 2020 and by November of that year, a community-led bond initiative was passed to fund both renovations and expansions.

The 100-year-old, 3-story historic building received extensive enhancements, including:

  • A new band room with ample storage, state-of-the-art media center, and centrally-located cafeteria/multi-purpose space
  • Upgraded mechanical and fire alarm systems, adding air conditioning
  • Modern finishes and furniture throughout every classroom
  • Accessibility improvements to reduce transitions, stairs, and obstructions
  • New classrooms and flexible breakout spaces for group collaboration
  • An outdoor courtyard for students and staff

The building remained occupied and operational throughout the construction process and was located on a tight, urban site. Construction began in the fall of 2021 and was completed in ten phases over the course of three years - with final completion in the fall of 2024!
