This new construction project located adjacent to the Wealthy St./Division Avenue intersection was built in two separate phases:
Since opening its doors to a single grade level (6th grade) in 2007, UPrep operated out of temporary spaces. Classes were formerly held at the old City High building in Grand Rapids’ Heritage Hill area. The school added one grade each year and became fully operational for grades 6-12 when this new construction project was completed in 2013.
The school design is centered around project-based learning spaces called “advisories,” in place of traditional classrooms. Shared enclaves and project zones are provided between each advisory, to promote collaboration. Other unique features include polished concrete floors in all common areas and super-insulated wall panels in the second and third story portions of the building.
